When kustomize edit fix --vars converts a var named DB_HOST, what does it write where $(DB_HOST) appeared in resource files?

Answer: DB_HOST_PLACEHOLDER
Explanation
The conversion adds a replacement target for each place the var appears and swaps the $(DB_HOST) text for DB_HOST_PLACEHOLDER. The replacement overwrites that placeholder during the build. Because this edits resource files, run it in a clean Git tree and compare the build output afterwards.
